How to make three recipes – Halwa (suji ka halwa), Poori (Puri), and dry black chickpea (black chana) recipe. These recipes are specially prepared during the festival’s Ashtami and Navami days.
About the Halwa Poori Chana Prasad
Navratri is a nine-night auspicious Hindu festival celebrated to honor Goddess Durga. It occurs two times as per the Hindu Calendar.
The 8th day is known as Ashtami, and the 9th final day is known as Ram Navami. People keep Navaratri fasting and open their fast by consuming this meal and then preparing the semolina Halwa (suji ka halwa), wheat puffed Poori (puri), and dry black chickpea (black chana) Prasad on the 8th or 9th day to end the rituals.
After following all the rituals, It is given to 9 small girls with fruits.
It uses basic ingredients like sugar, spices, suji (semolina), etc. This is a 3-in-1 divine recipe, which is quite easy to prepare.
You can make these dishes altogether or even separately as you want. But do remember this semolina halwa (suji ka halwa), poori (puri) & dry black chana includes no onions and garlic.

Ingredients For Halwa (Suji ka Halwa)
- 1 cup suji/rava/semolina
- ½ cup sugar or as per taste
- 1 cup water
- 5-6 raisins (dried Grapes)
- 1 tbsp chopped nuts – optional
- 1 tbsp coconut desiccated
- 1 cup clarified butter (ghee)
Ingredients For Poori or Puri
- 1 cups wheat flour
- salt or as per taste
- 1 tbsp oil
- water as required
- oil for frying
Ingredients For Chana
- 200 gm black chickpea (kala chana)
- 5-7 cups water
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- salt or as per taste
- ½ tbsp turmeric powder
- ½ tbsp deggi mirch (red chilli powder)
Steps
How to Make Halwa (Suji ka Halwa)
- Take a wide pan & add ½ cup clarified butter (ghee) to it.
- Add 1 cup Semolina (suji/rava) and let it roast on the low-heat flame for 5-10 minutes until its color changes from white to light brown.
- Add ½ cup sugar to it and mix it well. Then add 2 cups of water and cook it till thoroughly water absorbs in the suji.
- Then garnish with raisins (dried grapes), nuts, and 1 tbsp desiccated coconut on top of it.
- Our sweet halwa (suji ka halwa) is ready to serve with black chana and poori (puri).
How to Make Poori or Puri
Preparation
- Take a Large bowl and Knead the 1 cup of wheat flour with salt, 1 tbsp of oil, and water.
- Then, make the dough and cover it for a while.
Cooking
- Make a Small ball of dough and keep it aside.
- Make a small pooris (puris) on a flat board with a rolling pin. Otherwise, you can also use a tortilla press to make the puris (pooris).
- Heat oil on a deep pan and Deep fry the puris (pooris) in oil.
- Our perfect puffed pooris (puris) are ready to serve with chana & halwa.
How to Make Chana
Preparation
- Wash and Soak the 200gm black chickpea (kala chana) with 5-7 cups of water for a minimum of 5 to 6 hours or overnight for better results.
Cooking
- Take a pressure & cook the overnight black chickpea, water, 1/2 tbsp of salt, and cook for 5-6 whistles. Remove from the heat and set aside.
- Take a wok, add 4 tbsp of oil, and add 1 tbsp of cumin seeds, ½ turmeric powder, ½ deggi mirch (red chilli) powder, and a pinch of salt and mix them in oil.
- Add boiled black Chickpea (kala chana) with water, and cook for 10-20 minutes on low heat until all water evaporates.
- Remove from heat, and serve it hot with poori (puri) and halwa (suji ka halwa).

Halwa chana poori does not ask for a special occasion. You can make it anytime you want. It is something yummy you are missing in your breakfast, which is easy to make at home. This fulfilling and delightful combination is also quite nutritious.
