What Is Poha

Poha is called Chivda, Pauwa, Sira, Chivda & aval. The word “Poha” refers to the Flattered rice, beaten rice, or parched rice itself and the dish made with it.

There are two types of Poha Easily available in the Indian Market. But Outside, you’ll need to buy from an Indian or Asian grocery store.

  • Thick Poha or Medium ( Mota Poha ) – If You’re going to make Poha for breakfast, I suggest you always choose thick or medium poha.
  • Thin Poha ( Chivda, Paper Poha )

As I mentioned above, In a different state of India poha making, serving & eating style is totally different. If you go to Maharastra (Nagpur), Poha is served with Black chana ki sabzi, chopped onion & sev, it is also called (Tari poha).

If you visit Banaras, you have seen poha made with milk & ghee. And Same as going to Madhya Pradesh in Indore, you will see Indori Poha made with steamed cook & prefer to use green peas instead of peanuts & serves with jalebi.

The Poha Dish

Poha is a healthier and lighter breakfast recipe. You only need a few ingredients to make this recipe. You can make this recipe with flattered rice (poha) & curry leaves ( kadipatta ) with Indian species. In addition, you can also add Onion & Potato as well.

To Make this Kanda Poha and Kanda batata poha Recipe More enriched or nutritious, add some boiled or without boiled green peas, peanuts ( Shengdana – Marathi word ) & grated carrots into it. You also Garnish With Pomegranate (Small Size).

I took this recipe Inspiration from my friend’s mom. She was from Maharashtra. When I was in college, my friend’s mom gave her a poha recipe in her tiffin box. Then I learned this recipe from my friend’s mom.
