How to make delicious Makki ki Roti

If you’re a fan of flatbreads, you need to try my Punjabi Makki Ki Roti Indian recipe. This corn-based unleavened flatbreads (called Makki ki roti) are delicious, slightly sweet, and perfect for a winter breakfast or lunch. Makki ki roti is a bread that can be made traditionally (in a tandoor), or using a Tawa/Tortilla Press. Makki di roti is a bit heavy on the stomach when compared with other flatbreads. That’s why I and my family cannot eat more than two at a time depending upon the size and appetite of one person.

Benefits of eating Makki ki Roti are:

Makki ki roti is not only delicious in taste but is also very healthy for our hearts. Eating Makki ki roti during winter is beneficial as it contains B-complex vitamins that can keep sluggishness at bay. It is also good for your skin, hair, heart, brain, and digestion. Makki roti is a good source of Vitamin A, C, K, beta-carotene, and selenium.

This Vegetarian recipe is very easy-to-make and does not require many ingredients to make. Making authentic Indian delicacies might seem like a daunting task but they are easy to make. Down below I have shown you stepwise instructions of how to make delicious Makki ki Roti:

Tortilla press to make Makki ki Roti
We’ll be using Tortilla Press to make our Makki ki Roti.
Cutting zip lock bag from the sides.
Cutting a zip lock bag from three of its sides and leave one of the side uncut.
Nicely mix all the ingredients with water
Let’s add cornmeal flour and wheat flour in a bowl/container.
Kneading of dough is done.
We’ll be kneading both the flour with water together to make the perfect dough.
Keep it cover for a while.
Cover the dough and let it rest for a while.

Make small balls of the dough
It’s time to make small balls out of it.
Add flour on the sheet of tortilla press
We’ll open the tortilla press and dust it with some flour.
Place a dough ball in between tortilla press
Place a ball of dough in between and dust it a little bit with wheat flour.
Pressing dough for that perfect shape
Close the tortilla and press it nicely for that round and perfect shape. It’s time to open and check if it’s nicely flattened.
It's time to cook our roti
You need to be very gentle when you remove it to prevent it from breaking, but if you’ve added wheat flour to the top then there are very few chances of breaking.

Now we’ll put it on the Tawa and cook it from both sides nicely.

  • Ziplock sheet
  • Bowl
  • Tawa

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Cornmeal flour
  • 1/4 cup Wheatflour
  • Water
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preparing
    -Take a tortilla press.
    -Cut zip lock bag sheet from three sides.
    -Place the sheet in between the Tortilla Press.
    -Take a bowl.
    -Add Cornmeal flour and wheat flour to it.
    -To it add water and knead it together to make that perfect texture dough.
    -Cover it with a lid and let it set for a while.
    -Open the lid.
    -Make small balls out of the dough.
    -Open the Tortilla press dust flour on the sheet so that the dough doesn't stick.
    -Place a ball of dough in between the sheet and dust wheat flour on the top of the dough.
    -Close the Tortilla and press the dough to make that perfect round shape.
    -Open the Tortilla press and gently remove the sheet from the dough.
  • Cooking
    -Now let's cook our roti.
    -Nicely cook it from both sides.
    -Our Makki ki Roti is ready.
